As I am figuring out my life, and on my self-development journey, I’ve become more self-aware. Many thoughts run through my head during the day. Some are positive, others are negative. Lots of them have been self-defeating. On the bright side, I’ve had the opportunity to change them through affirmations and positive self-talk. It gives me hope knowing that I have complete control over the thoughts I entertain, no matter what kind they are.

1.) Affirmations help to boost self-confidence

I've included a set of daily affirmations in my morning routine along with a delicious cup of green tea. It helps me to start off my day on a positive note. After reading them for several minutes I feel empowered. Reciting affirmations has become a necessary habit for my overall mental well-being.

2.) They benefit/improve your physical health

An optimistic outlook on life and the challenges that arise can affect you physically. Studies have shown that affirmations can decrease your risk for depression, cardiovascular disease, distress etc. They even increase your body’s immunity to common colds. The less stress and sickness on the body means a longer life span (not including outside factors of course.)

3.) Allows you to access new beliefs

The saying “what you believe you make true”, is an understatement. It’s an example of why it's so important to dwell on positive thoughts and use uplifting affirmations to progress in life. Like Henry Ford said, “ whether you think you can or you can’t you’re right. Affirmations will challenge the old programming replaying in your mind, and upgrade them into encouraging words, which will eventually lead to radical action.

I began using affirmations at the beginning of 2020. My self-confidence has increased. My overall health has improved. I’m aware that I’m still a work in progress and have many areas in my life that are developing. Positive self-talk plays such a tremendous role in my personal development.

Here are some of my favorite affirmations at the moment:

  • I believe in myself. I am capable of amazing things.
  • My mind is made up and I'm moving forward in the direction of my goals and dreams.
  • Worthy is my name!
  • I am deserving of all things good.
  • I am taking my power back, and I’m not giving it away to anyone ever again.
  • I am one of a kind. I am unique.
  • My voice matters!
